Parliament adopts Law on Broadcasting

With 84 votes for and 4 against, the Georgian MPs adopted the Law on Broadcasting with the third hearing today.
According to the law, the number of members of Board of Trustees of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) will be reduced from 15 to 9 and their election rule will be also changed.

The Parliament will elect 2 members presented by Public Defender, 3 at presentation of majority, 3 – at presentation of more than ¼ of lawmakers, 1 member will be elected at presentation of Adjara Justice Council.

MPs of National Movement did not support the law. They claimed that the law limited GPB’s independence.
